Included on Health Storylines are a range of Health Tools to help you better manage your health condition(s). These Health Tools include a medication reminder, a symptom tracker, a daily journal, and more.
You can also personalize your Health Storylines according to your health condition, to receive additional Health Tools.
Health Storylines is intended for patients with chronic illnesses and for their caregivers, using it on the behalf of the patient.
That being said, anyone can use Health Storylines to better manage their health with a range of health tools.
Yes, Health Storylines is 100% free to download and to use. You do not have to pay to sign up for an account, and there is also no charge to continue using it.
Health Storylines collects the personal data you enter during the registration process, and your self-reported health data. Personal data includes your name and email address. Your personal data can be used to identify who you are, so we never share your personal data with anyone, and we treat your privacy very seriously.
Your self-reported health data entered on the app is aggregated to generate research insights that are shared with our partners and other third parties. It is impossible to identify your personal identity after the self-reported health data you enter is aggregated.
For example, we only share information such as “86% of cancer patients track their symptoms using Health Storylines”, and there is no personally-identifiable information attached to it. We never share whom the data is coming from.
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information and self-reported health data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure or loss. Our platform has reasonable security measures (including online and offline physical, electronic and managerial safeguards) in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of your data under our control. We use industry-standard encryption technologies to protect the data that you submit on our platform.
However, as with any transmission over the internet, there is always some element of risk in submitting personal information online and we will not be liable for any breach of data security caused by circumstances outside its control, including unauthorized network intrusions.

HIPAA is the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The primary goal of the law is to make it easier for people to keep health insurance, protect the confidentiality and security of healthcare information and help the healthcare industry control administrative costs.
Yes, the Health Storylines platform is HIPAA compliant. All data reports that are generated from your self-reported health data entered onto Health Storylines are aggregated, de-identified data. De-identification follows HIPAA safe harbor guidelines.

Health Storylines is free to download and to use, and you never have to pay for it. However, sometimes the Apple iTunes Store does ask for your payment information, and this is not associated with the use of Health Storylines.
If you are creating a new Apple ID, you can choose the option of not inputting your credit card information. There should be a “none” option under “Payment Type”. If you already have an Apple ID, iTunes Store requires you to input your credit card information, but don’t worry, you can remove this information right after.
To remove this information, go onto the Home Screen and select Settings. Go to iTunes & App Store. Select your Apple ID then choose View Apple ID. Select Payment Type and choose None.
If you use Health Storylines over a Wi-Fi network, no additional mobile data plan usage will occur. Using it over mobile data network may result in small increase in data usage. At this point in time, our app is based on web technology. As such, the app will use as much data as using a small lightweight website that does not have a lot of media that takes up data.
If you cannot log in, do not panic. Check to see if you have entered the right email or password. If you have forgotten your password, click on the “Forgot Password” link on the login page and then enter your email address on the next page. You will receive an email to reset your password.
You can only remove a condition if you have previously added a condition
By adding a condition, new Health Tools may be unlocked and added for you in order to better assist you in your daily life as well as giving better insight in your own well-being.
With the Medication Tracker, you can add multiple medications to your list, and set reminders so you don’t forget to take them. You can track whether you have taken or missed your medications each day, and even the reasons why.

Emotional health is important to your overall health. With the Daily Moods health tool, you can track your mood daily from a collection of positive and negative moods. By looking at the relationship between your health and your mood, the mood tracker can provide insight into how your condition and treatment may impact your emotional health, as well as effective coping strategies.
You can only view you mood history if you have previously recorded a mood.
With the Appointment Calendar you can note down all your doctor’s appointments to help you stay organized. You may also use this calendar to jot down any events related to your health.

With the Symptom Tracker, you can monitor any number of symptoms you are experiencing as part of your health condition. You can customize your tool by setting it up with symptoms you typically encounter, and rate daily their severity and impact on your day. Once recorded, a graph will be populated to show trends over time.

With the Journal, you can choose from a curated list of guided journaling topics to help you learn more about your condition, practice gratitude, recognize accomplishments, and achieve self-discovery. You may also choose to use it to journal about any other topics. Journaling is has been proven to be therapeutic for coping and dealing with recovery.
You can only view your journal entries if you have previously made a journal entry.
Healthy Doses is a health tool to take your mind off the clinical and medical aspect of dealing with a health condition. With Healthy Doses, you can collect doses of healthy wisdom for your mind and spirit.
You can only view your Health Doses if you have previously saved a healthy dose.
Using the Circle of Support feature, you can invite others who are part of your care team – whether they are your family members, close friends, or a caregiver – to follow closely on your daily self-care activities and progress.
They can send you messages of support through the secure messaging feature on the app, and you can also choose to share with them certain parts of your story based on your use of the different Health Tools.
By default, a person added to your Circle of Support will not see any of your Health Tools activity until you have decided to share it with them.
The person you invited will receive an email invitation to your Circle of Support.
Using the Groups feature on Circle of Support, you can organize your contacts into different groups and share different parts of your health story with them. The group system enables you to share some things with certain people, and not others.

The My Storylines feature shows you your overall health story, based on your usage of the different Health Tools. By using the Health Tools regularly, you will see your health story unfold, giving you greater insight into your health.
